Dragoncon 2008 – thurs and friday!

Hey guys… sorry I haven’t posted in a few days!!
Dragoncon was a blast, as always. I managed to come home with a nasty head cold so I’ve been kinda in-and-out of it since then. I finished uploading our photos today, though – had over 1000, almost filled up the memory card, LOL.

I think I’ll break up my posts by days… there’s a lot of stuff to go through.

Our drove down to Atlanta was pretty uneventful. We got in a little earlier than we expected, especially considering we left home a little later than we planned.

We got our badges – took about an hour, then had dinner, then I went and put Giselle on and we hung out in the Marriott for the rest of the night.

My newly repaired Giselle dress – I re-did the top and the shoulder wrap.

Man it was so much roomier this year.

Hanging in the bar area.

The newly completed Marriott was FANTASTIC! The overly crowded feeling from last year was gone. I mean, it was still crowded – but there was more room for people to move and the large area on the other side of the bar – here in this 2nd pic above – was great for just hanging around without being hassled by security to keep moving.

Friday we slept in a little, since we didn’t have to get up and get badges that morning. I was going to wear Glinda and get it out of the way before it got too crowded, but Chase wanted to put on Green Arrow, so I put on Black Canary.

I was really pleased with Black Canary. I wore it more often than anything else that weekend – in fact I wore it twice friday, twice saturday and once sunday. It was just something that was easy to wear, and didn’t hurt my head, didn’t hurt my feet, I could sit in it and I could breath in it, LOL. My zipper pull broke off that friday morning – but I fixed it once we got back to the room.

Chase’s Green Arrow we were really pleased with. I think he was surprised at the reception he got. We both have little tweaks we want to make to it – we want to get the greens to match. As you can see on Friday he wore it with the suede tunic. When he put it on Sunday, I told him to leave the tunic off and see how it looked. We liked it MUUUUUUUUCH better without the tunic, so that’s how it will be from now on. The whole armor piece – the black and green thing he wears on top – was supposed to be one of the things that guy was supposed to make for us. Chase had to make the whole thing out of whatever he could find the weekend before the con just so he could have a completed costume to wear. I’m really proud of how he pulled everything together not only this but also on my Wonder Woman. It made the few days before the con hectic as all get out, but we did manage to get everything done.

Anyway – Black Canary/Green Arrow pics from Friday:

Chase's first outing in his Green Arrow costume. When he rewore this on Sunday, we edited it a little - mainly leaving off the tunic, which we thought made things too busy looking. It helped a lot. Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

btw, his gauntlet lit up. it was really cool looking at night… and really attracted the curious drunkards LOL

We ate lunch, and then I asked Chase to please go pick up a parade ribbon for me, while Ash and I went and got me changed into Zatanna, and I’d meet him back in front of the exhibit hall so we could shop. Well of course we ran upstairs and I put on the surprise costume 😀

Over a year ago I asked Chase, “what costume would you most like to see me do?” He said, “Selene from Underworld.” So, ta-da. Back in February this year I found someone selling a Selene costume – perfect! It came and was WAY too big. I was able to take up the bodysuit, but there was no saving the corset – the leather was too thick for me to attempt to take up. So I ended up buying a second corset on ebay (and that one came with gauntlets!) The boots were some I had that I added straps and buckles to.
It’s not 100% but it was fun to wear and fun to surprise Chase with – he was totally surprised. It didn’t work out quite the way I planned, because obviously I was standing around with Ash, and that gave it away without him having to really figure anything out. He immediately went in the dealer’s room and bought me a gun to carry, though. We’re going to try to upgrade it over the next few months.

Ash, still the #1 Costume Monkey in the Universe

So after some shopping, I put Poison Ivy on, and… we did some more shopping 8) That was our major goal this year – with the dealer’s rooms in the Hilton last year we just didn’t get over there much. With them back in the Marriott, we were in there all the time!

We tried out the Hyatt buffet for the first time ever for dinner, and then I went and put Zatanna on, yay.
I LOVED my Zatanna costume!! I need to get my own hat, of course – that one was a rental. And I’m going to need to replace the swimsuit bottoms – they had a hole in them I had to repair while wearing them! It’s easier to just replace them than fool with it in the future.
The thing is… the shoes were HORRIBLE. I knew they would be, but I had blisters on both little toes after an hour or so. Not the first time, but kinda sucks getting them on the first full day of the con!!

And then we called it a night, since we had to be up early to get ready for the parade the next morning.

    Mr Rogers!!!!

Great writeup and pictures. The Poison Ivy was the only one I actually got to see in person, but the others are lovely too!

    Wow! So many costumes!

Giselle looks gorgeous, what wig did you use? I’m thinking that mine might be slightly too dark, and maybe could use being longer! Yours is so long! but perfect! Black Canary is so kick arse! I can’t wait to do that costume now (though I’m all about the bomber jacket :P). You really suit the blonde!

OMG! Selene! It looks pretty good! Now you’ve gotten me wanting to fix mine up again 😛 You really make a great Selene! It’s weird, your Ivy looks lighter for some reason, than the last time you wore it! But so cool! And Zatanna is great! All these superheroes, I can’t wait to do them! I love the waistcoat cincher!

Oh and what wig did you use for Zatanna? It looks fantastic! I’m looking at getting a wig for WW/Donna/Zatanna, and that one is pretty spot on!

    Can’t wait for more photos!

I always love seeing your pics from D*C 🙂 Looks like so much fun 🙂

You’re one of those lucky people who can get away with lots of different hair colours, and it looks natural every time 🙂 I love the selene wig on you. It really suits you 🙂

    Everything looks fab! 🙂
